Klaus Landefeld As a board member of eco e.V., the Association of the Internet Industry with over 1000 member organisations from 70 countries, Klaus is responsible for the segment infrastructure and networks which includes the worlds leading Internet Exchange DE-CIX. Klaus was born in 1968 and pursued studies in electrical engineering at the University of Darmstadt, Germany. He is travelling the international data networks since 1980. He became active in the Internet in 1988 and is offering commercial internet services to his customers since 1990. With „AS3257“ (Nacamar, today known as GTT) Klaus started the first Tier 1 backbone network in Europe. He became the frist international member of the London LINX and of JPIX, was a founding member of DENIC eG, AMS-IX and MINX. As CTO of World Online, he started large scale mass-media streaming in 1999, putting Concerts of U2, Eurhythmics an the like online. In 2000 he pioneered 24/7 live streaming with „Big Brother“, utilizing new technical concepts like „edge streaming“ and “adaptive rate”. Today Klaus is active in the concept, build and operation of broadband access networks (FTTx, DLS, Cable) in rural areas, is working on the challenges of IoT and network security as well as Providing a political foundation for the impact of digitalization and AI on society. Operating one of the first ISPs and being active in 17 countries Klaus worked with LEA since 1993 and was having an active role interfacing with LEA and the Secret Services in 7 countries Worldwide in 2000. He became a witness in the NSA inquiry committee of the German Bundestag in 2015 and today oversees the lawsuit by DE-CIX vs. the German government regarding internet surveillance at DE-CIX
