Stefan Heumann

Stefan Heumann is Co-Director of the Berlin based think tank Stiftung Neue Verantwortung (SNV). He joined SNV in 2013, helping to establish its European Digital Agenda program and has shaped the development of SNV into one of the leading think tanks at the intersection of technology and public policy in Germany. He has worked and published on a wide range of issues such as cyber security, surveillance & privacy, and future of work. From 2014 to 2016 he was a member of the Freedom Online Coalition’s working group 3 on „privacy and transparency online“. In 2016 he initiated the Transatlantic Cyber Forum (TCF) together with Ben Scott. The TCF brings together German and US cyber security experts to work together on such pressing issues such as government hacking, protection of elections against cyber threats, and IT driven innovations for oversight of intelligence agencies. Prior to joining SNV Stefan coordinated the public affairs section of the US Consulate General in Hamburg and taught and researched as an Assistant Professor of political science at the University of Northern Colorado. Stefan Heumann holds a PhD in political science from the University of Pennsylvania.
