פרופ’ אלדר הבר הוא פרופסור חבר בפקולטה למשפטים באוניברסיטת חיפה, ראש המרכז למשפט וטכנולוגיה (HCLT) וחבר המרכז לסייבר, משפט ומדיניות (CCLP). הוא כיהן כעמית-סגל (faculty associate) במרכז ברקמן-קליין לחקר אינטרנט וחברה באוניברסיטת הרווארד (2015-2018). מחקריו עוסקים בעיקרם בקו התפר שבין משפט וטכנולוגיה, ובאופן פרטני בדיני סייבר, קניין רוחני, פרטיות, זכויות וחירויות בסביבה הדיגיטלית ובמשפט הפלילי המהותי. מאמריו בנושאים אלו פורסמו בכתבי-עת בישראל ובארצות-הברית, ובין היתר, בכתבי-עת בנושאי משפט וטכנולוגיה מאוניברסיטאות הרווארד, ייל, ברקלי וסטנפורד. ספרו בנושא זכות היוצרים הפלילית פורסם ב-2018 בהוצאת אוניברסיטת קיימברידג’. פרופ’ הבר משתתף באופן תדיר בכנסים ובסדנאות בתחומו, והוא זכה במספר פרסים ומלגות על עבודותיו דוגמת פרס הIAPP- למאמר המצטיין השנתי באיחוד האירופי בנושא פרטיות לשנת 2017 ופרס חשין לחוקר צעיר לשנת תשפ”א. מחקריו מצוטטים במאמרים אקדמיים, בדו”חות ממשלתיים, במדיה ובבתי-משפט פדרליים בארצות-הברית.
