Our research group has been discussing early modern political concepts, debating both their historical contexts and their relevancy to our era and issues. Like other scholars in recent years, we find meaning for our own times in the early modern tension-field between liberalism and republicanism, and in its attendant debates on liberty, rights, duties, citizenship, economy, religion, and international relations.
