המטרה ארוכת הטווח של מחקריי ושל עבודתי האקדמית היא השגת הבנה מעמיקה של היבטים שונים בתחומי הפֶּנוֹלוֹגְיָה (תורת הענישה) ובתי הכלא, בכוונה ברורה לשלב תיאוריה ומחקר עם פיתוח פרקטיקות ענישתיות וכליאתיות שישפרו את מדיניות הענישה ואת רווחת האסירים וסגלי הכליאה ושיגדילו את סיכויי השיקום של אסירים לאחר שחרורם. לשם השגת מטרה זו עסקתי ואני עדיין עוסק במספר פרויקטים בעלי השפעה פוטנציאלית רבה, כמפורט להלן.

עבודתי האקדמית בשנים האחרונות שילבה חשיבה תיאורטית ומחקר עם יישומים מעשיים, תוך מתן דגש רב לתרגום מושגים תיאורטיים ואמפיריים לפרקטיקה. עבודה זו השפיעה הן על החשיבה התיאורטית והן על הפרקטיקה בתחומי הכליאה, בעיקר בישראל אך גם בחו”ל.

בקצרה, ברמה הבינלאומית, עבדתי עם מרכז המחקר של בתי הכלא באוניברסיטת קיימברידג’ (Prison Research Center, Institute of Criminology, Cambridge University) לפיתוח מושגים תיאורטיים חדשים ואסטרטגיות מעשיות לניהול בתי כלא שישפרו את רווחת הסוהרים והאסירים. במקביל, בשיתוף עם פרופסור רוברט אנרייט מאוניברסיטת ויסקונסין, פרופסור נתי רונאל מאוניברסיטת בר-אילו וד”ר יצחק בן-יאיר מהמכללה האקדמית צפת, בחנו את התאמתה של תרפיית הסליחה לטיפול באסירים הסובלים מהתמכרויות. לצד האמור לעיל, אני מעורב בשיתוף פעולה אקדמי עם חוקרים ואנשי מקצוע מארה”ב (אוניברסיטת בוסטון והמכללה לאמנויות ומדעים ליברליים), מקסיקו ( (UNICACH אנגליה (אוניברסיטת אקסטר ואוניברסיטת קיימברידג’) ואוסטרליה (אוניברסיטת ניו סאות’ ויילס), לצורך בניית רשת מחקר בינלאומית בתחומי המוזיקה והצדק. מטרות הרשת הן ליזום מחקרים בינלאומיים העוסקים בהשפעת המוזיקה על רווחת האסירים ולשתף ידע מחקרי ופרקטי בכל הנוגע לשימוש במוזיקה בתוך בתי הכלא ומניעת פשיעה לאחר השחרור.

בנוסף, הוזמנתי על ידי תוכנית ארסמוס (ERASMUS) ואוניברסיטת שטרסבורג להשתתף בשבוע של הכשרה במסגרתו פגשתי את פרופסורים כריסטינה אודון, ג’רמי גוטייה (ראש היחסים הבינלאומיים במחלקה למדעי החברה), ג’רום בושז (ראש המעבדה של מכוןDeviAnces ), מסיל בנבורירשה וניקולס אמדיו, במטרה ליזום שיתופי פעולה אקדמיים בנושאים של שיטור והתנהגות פסולה של שוטרים (תחום בו הנחיתי שתי עבודות דוקטורט), ויקטימולוגיה, סליחה, תרפיה ושיקום קורבנות שהפכו לפושעים. לבסוף, אני משמש כחבר מערכת של שלושה כתבי עת בן-לאומיים, כולל אחד הנחשב כמוביל בתחום המחקר שלי – The Prison Journal.

עבודתי ברמה הלאומית כללה וכוללת (1) בניית כלא מחקר אוניברסיטאי (בשיתוף עם פרופסור נתי רונאל מאוניברסיטת בר-אילן) בישראל לצורך איסוף וניתוח שיטתי מתמשך של נתונים גדולים על חיי הכלא (פרויקט שהסתיים כ-12 חודשים לאחר תחילתו עקב נסיבות פנימיות שונות של שירות בתי הסוהר הישראלי). באופן דומה, פרופסור רונאל ואנוכי פיתחנו תכנית “קהילה טיפולית חכמה” ב”רטורנו”, קהילה טיפולית להתמכרות לסמים. (2) מחקר על לקויות למידה בכלא ששינה את ההבנה הקונספטואלית הקשורה לשיקום אסירים עם לקויות למידה והוביל לפיתוח ושימוש בכלי אבחון וטיפול חדשים המשמשים כיום בבתי הכלא בישראל. (3) מחקרים ייחודיים על כלא נשים שהובילו להבנות ולתובנות בכל הנוגע לצורכיהן ולמאפייני תת תרבות הכלא. (4) מחקר חדשני (בשיתוף ד”ר נינה סולימן) על רווחת הסוהרים, אשר הובילה להבנה טובה יותר של האתגרים עימם הם מתמודדים ולרעיונות חדשים בנוגע להכשרתם. בהקשר זה חשוב לציין שמחקריי בכלא הובילו את שרות בתי הסוהר להזמין אותי להיות חלק מפורום החשיבה הראשון לעצוב מחדש של כלא הנשים בישראל.

נוסף על אמור לעיל, אני מעורב במספר יוזמות אקדמאיות כולל ניתוח השפעת העבודה ב- וההאזנה ל- תכניות רדיו של אסירים (‘רדו פוקוס’) על איכות חייהם, השפעת מספר סוגות של מוזיקה על רווחת אסירים, ניתוח והבנה של תת-תרבות חשפניות המועדונים והעצמת הלגיטימציה והאמון של הציבור ושל בני נוער בסיכון במשטרה.

לסיכום, המחקר שלי מתמקד בהרחבת ובהעמקת הידע התיאורטי והאמפירי בתחומי הפֶּנוֹלוֹגְיָה, בתי הכלא, צדק פלילי ושיקום אסירים.

את לימודי התואר הראשון בקרימינולוגיה השלמתי באוניברסיטת בר-אילן ואת לימודי התארים השני והשלישי שלי השלמתי באוניברסיטה העברית בירושלים. פרסמתי עד היום שישה ספרים, לבד ועם שותפים, ומחקריי פורסמו בכתבי-עת בינלאומיים מובילים.

לבסוף, הנחיתי מעל 30 תלמידי תואר שני ו-15  דוקטורנטים.
